Teachers Deserve Care And Honor As They Are Nation Builders

As schools across Papua New Guinea reopen for the 2026 academic year, the Papua New Guinea
Christian Professionals Network (PNGCPN) extends heartfelt encouragement to all teachers. You are not
only educators—you are nation builders, shaping the minds and character of our children, and fulfilling
one of the fivefold ministries of Jesus Christ as teachers (Ephesians 4:11).

Children spend more time with their teachers than with their parents. This makes teachers the most
influential figures in a child’s development. Hence, we need more role model teachers. Teachers who are
biblically grounded and ethically upright are nation builders, shaping both the mind and the character of
the next generation. A teacher’s welfare directly impacts their presentation, attendance, and confidence.
If teachers are not properly looked after, the quality of education and the future of our nation suffer.

Across Asia and Africa, governments are increasingly recognizing that teacher welfare is central to
national progress. Yet, in Papua New Guinea, teachers continue to face significant challenges—low pay,
delayed entitlements, limited housing, and scarce resources. These struggles mirror those of teachers in
other developing nations, but they also highlight the urgent need for PNG to act decisively.

PNGCPN calls on the Government of Papua New Guinea to prioritize teacher welfare. Teachers must be
supported with fair compensation, housing, training, and recognition. A nation cannot rise above the
quality of its teachers, and our children’s future depends on the dignity and strength of those who guide
them.

To our teachers: do not give up, for your labor is not in vain; as Scripture reminds us, “Let us not be weary
in well doing: for in due season, we shall reap, if we faint not” (Galatians 6:9). Every action you take and
every example you set directly influences your students, because a child spends nearly 19 years in school
from early childhood to university, under your guidance, and studies confirm that association profoundly
shapes character. If your life reflects discipline, integrity, and kindness, your students will follow, but if it
reflects destructive habits such as drunkenness, smoking, betel nut chewing, or violence, they may imitate
those patterns—you are writing the living chapters of their lives. Regardless of the challenges or limited
benefits, give your best, because God has ways to bless you beyond measure, and your calling as
teachers is sacred, part of the fivefold ministry of Christ. You are nation builders, shaping destiny and
molding generations, and your influence will echo through time both here on earth and in heaven

PNGCPN wishes all teachers across the country strength, wisdom, and joy as you begin the 2026
academic year. You are the builders of tomorrow, and your sacrifices will echo through generations.
