PNG LEADERSHIP REQUIRES INTEGRITY

CEO’S Fortnightly Update

April 2025 Edition 5

Our Main Programs – Emerging Leaders Summit, Minds-Meet, CPN Connect and Peace Ambassadors
INTRODUCTION

Greetings to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. This is another edition of CEOs’ fortnightly updates In this edition I will talk on the second attribute of our main theme “Leadership in your sphere of Influence” The first attribute was on “ In this edition I will talk about the second attribute which is “ The great Apostle Paul told Young Timothy to be an example 1
Timothy 4 12 Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity”

We have a great cloud of witness As we ascend to higher positions or become influential in our own spheres, we have followers whether good or bad To be effective and gain trust we must have high standards of Integrity. The short definition of integrity is “Walking the talk” In this
edition I will expound more on Integrity

Leading by Example

Integrity starts on a personal level. It begins with me in my most secret place when no one is around. Do I honour God in my most secret place be it physical or in my mind or heart? Do I honour my words to my followers? Does anyone see fault in me? No one on earth is perfect but do I strive to do right? These are questions individuals should ask to be qualified to be called a person of integrity. Jesus preached and lived an upright life. Jesus life is an example for us to live. We need to do things right and honour our commitments as an example for the next generation to follow.

Leaders must consistently demonstrate honesty, transparency, and ethical behavior in their decisions.

Example: A manager who expects employees to be punctual must also arrive on time for meetings and commitments. This consistency builds respect and credibility.

Lets begin this journey to lead by example so that we become people of integrity.

Honest and Transparent

One of the core pillars of Integrity is being Honest and transparent. Telling the truth is very easy but is often very difficult to do. Research shows that 60% of people 18 and older are incapable of having a conversation without lying once every 10 minutes. Our words and our actions speak volumes of who we are. People will confide in you and draw strength from you if you are a person who is honest and doesn’t lie.

Being truthful in all interactions creates trust among team members. A leader with integrity does not withhold critical information or deceive others for personal gain.

Example: A CEO facing financial difficulties in a company should communicate openly with employees, rather than hiding problems until a crisis occurs. This honesty helps teams prepare and find solutions together.

I see this as a biggest challenge, and I am urging you all to start speaking the truth and doing the right things so that you gain trust from others.

Accountability and Responsibilities

You will be called a person of integrity, when you take responsibility for your actions and ready to admit your  mistakes, and work to correct them rather than shifting blame.

Many people now-a-days playing the blame game and doesn’t want to be accountable of their actions or that of a team. They always put up a defensive wall and acting as Mr. or Mrs. right or know it all.  Only people of integrity admit their shortfall and seek help.

Example: If a project fails due to a miscalculation, a leader should acknowledge the mistake, learn from it, and guide the team toward improvement instead of blaming subordinates.

MR. SAMUEL RAY, PNGCPN CEO

CONCLUSION

Being Honest, leading by example and taking responsibilities of your actions are some of the attributes of a person of integrity. Will cover more in the next edition but we all need to know that your words and your actions are very important. They can have a positive impact or a negative impact. It will have a lasting impression of who you are. Hence. Lets be careful in what we do or say.
